History
The Greek State Archives-Regional Archives of Evia was founded in 1989. In the beginning it was a Local History Archives and two years later became a branch of the Greek State Archives.

Building(s)
The Archives are located in the Kriezoti Maison, a building with a long history in Chalkida. In the same location, according to archaeological fragments, there had been an Arabic Maison which was destroyed some centuries ago. It was later the residence of the last Ottoman Governor of Chalkida, Omer Pasha. In 1833 it was bought by Nikolaos Kriezotis. In 1982 it was bought by the Municipality of Chalkida. In 1989 it was given to the Archives.
Archival and Other Holdings
Administrative, juridical, educational, police archives, correspondence files, photograph collections, maps and plans collections, newspapers and periodicals collections, postcards collection, books collection for local history. Archives and collections cover the 19th and 20th centuries (1835 to the present).

The holdings are indexed and computer-searchable on site with archivist's assistance.
Opening Times
Opening days and hours: Monday to Friday (8:30-14:30). The Archives are closed on public holidays.
Conditions of Access
Photocopying is by request only and involves an assessment by staff to see if it is possible, with the item's preservation needs taking precedence. Digital cameras are allowed. The use of lap-tops is permitted. Researchers must seek the written permission of the archivist before publication of any material from the archival holdings, and such publication must acknowledge the Archives source.

The Archives are not accessible for users with disabilities.
Research Services
Research room is equipped with computers whose on-site Intranet programs allow searching and viewing material not accessible via off-site (Internet) use.
