History

Together In One

Yahad – In Unum combines the Hebrew word – Yahad, meaning “together,” with the Latin phrase In Unum, meaning “in one.” Founded in 2004 by internationally renowned humanitarian and activist, Father Patrick Desbois, we are a global organization raising consciousness of the sites of Jewish and Roma mass executions by Nazi killing units in Eastern Europe during World War II. This was the infamous “Holocaust by Bullets,” the prototype for the ensuing disease of modern genocide. The massacres in Cambodia, Rwanda, Darfur, the Balkans and Syria have all been modeled after the systematic tactics carried out during the “Holocaust by Bullets.”

By researching and exposing the evidence of these horrific but little known crimes against humanity, we are bringing closure to the memory of the victims. Moreover, we work to spread universal awareness of the need to recognize and denounce the ongoing epidemic of global genocide. Yahad-In Unum is the world’s only Christian organization dedicated to this solemn cause.

Records Management and Collecting Policies

Yahad – In Unum identifies mass Jewish killing sites and collects forensic evidence of the executions. Our team videotapes witnesses’ testimonies to these killings. To this day, Yahad has effectuated research concerning 1,744 execution sites and has gathered 4,485 testimonies during the course of its 105 investigative research trips in 7 countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Poland, Romania, Moldova, and Lithuania).

Archival and Other Holdings

Archives and Research Center (CERRESE)

The Resource Center houses all research findings, including archives from the Soviet Extraordinary State Commission and post-war trials in Germany, video collected from the field, artifacts and books about the Holocaust in Eastern Europe written in different languages. The Center periodically hosts academic exchanges and seminars.

In addition to the information available on this site, Yahad trip reports, archival records and videotapes of witness testimony are available to researchers, journalists and family members of victims at Yahad’s headquarters in Paris and at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
