Historia
The Archives were originally chartered in 1282, but their existence as an independent institution was later established in 1598, when Erasmus Langenhain was chosen as the first archivist. The Archives received the name "Geheimes Staatsarchiv" in 1803. The Archives moved to a new building in 1924 in Berlin-Dahlem, which remains their main building today. The Secret State Archives became part of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz) in 1963.
