Mandates/Sources of Authority
The National Archives is a state administration office as well as a central state archives directly controlled by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic. Taking into consideration spheres of activities of the Archives, and owing to the fact that it is directly linked with the work of the central archive institutions of the Czech state (continuously from the early Middle Ages), the National Archives deserves a prominent position among public archives of the Czech Republic. The seat of the National Archives is in Prague.
It is in accordance with the valid legal norms, mainly Act No. 499/2004 Coll., on archives and records service, Regulation No. 645/2004 Coll., implementing special provisions of the Act on archives and records service, and in accordance with the amendments of several Acts and also Regulation No.646 / 2004 Coll. which deals with details concerning the execution of records service, the National Archives practices a great many administrative and specialized activities.
Archival and Other Holdings
In 2011, all volumes of the Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths of Jewish communities deposited in the National Archives (1784-1949) were digitized (for more information, see http://www.nacr.cz/english/registers_births.aspx).
Among others contains restitution- and/or compensation-related materials: Czech National Archive; holds files from Czech Slave and Forced Labor Foundation (German Foundation); closed program; restriction: permission required by German-Czech Future Fond (Železná 24, 110 00 Praha 1, Czech Republic, URL: www.fondbudoucnosti.cz)
Finding Aids, Guides, and Publication
The database "Archive Groups in the Czech Republic", administered by the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic, provides the public with basic information on fonds and collections stored in archives throughout the Czech Republic. The web application is available in English as well:

Opening Times
In the Chatelovec Research Centre, visitors can consult archival materials from all of the National Archives' departments with the exception of the first (Department of Local Government and State Administration Fonds until 1848 and Church Institutions)
The Chatelovec Research Centre is open:
Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Chodovec Library is open:
Monday to Thursday from 9 .am. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
