History

The Archives was established on November 11, 1963 as a branch of the State Archives of Minsk Region in Borisov on the basis of the Borisov municipal archive and the Borisov, Krupki, Logoisk and Kholopenichi district archives.

In 1996 the branch was renamed as the Zonal State Archives in Borisov.

  • abolished Pleshchenitsy and Kholopenichi districts of the Minsk region
  • the towns of Borisov and Zhodino, and the Borisov, Krupki and Logoisk districts of the Minsk region

Contents: The Archives holds records on the postwar history of the region. Among these are the fonds of the government and administrative agencies that contain data on the implementation of resolutions and directives issued by the higher government bodies, the work of and election to the deputies' councils, the protection of public order, plans for the restoration of economy destroyed in WWII, assistance to the population in the frontline and partisan-controlled areas most suffered from the Nazi occupation, the creation of the voluntary monetary fund for assistance to servicemen's families.

Some documents contain information on the Nazi crimes in World War II, lists of the region's residents sent for forced labour in Germany and those killed, hanged or tortured by the Nazis. There are data on the establishment of relations between Borisov and its twin towns, the combat chronicle of the Normandia-Neman air squadron, and correspondence with the squadron's veteran pilots.

The fonds of various industrial enterprises contain records of the chemical, light, automobile, wood-processing and fuel industries, the tractor and agricultural machine-building. There are data on the Stakhanovite movement, socialist competition, innovators and shock workers.

The fonds of agricultural and forestry agencies, agricultural boards, agroindustrial amalgamations, collective and state farms, and machine-and-tractor stations contain data on the restoration and development of agriculture in the postwar period, the state of cattle breeding, crop yields, etc.

The fonds of construction and transportation agencies, communal services and trade institutions contain information concerning the industrial, civil, housing, social and cultural construction, the improvement of settlements, the introduction of advanced technologies in the production, etc.

The fonds of education, health care, sports, social protection, cultural and science institutions illustrate the development of education and science, the training of specialists for national economy, the growth of population's welfare, the measures aimed to improve medical and social protection, the development of sports and physical training.

The fonds of social organizations throw light on the role of trade and labour unions in the development of fair attitude, the observance of labour law, labour protection and accident prevention, the development of socialist competition, etc.

The Archives also contains collections of personnel records from various institutions and enterprises that operated in the region; personal papers of the participants of the October Revolution, the Civil War, and the Second World War, of the home front workers and members of socialist competition, workers in the Arts and Culture; records of the liquidated private organizations.
